IMPHAL: The 11th season of the Yarsho League Imphal kicked off on Saturday at Amaris Turf, Langol, bringing together football enthusiasts aged above 35 from diverse professional backgrounds.

Organised as a seven-a-side football tournament, the Yarsho League seeks to promote physical fitness, camaraderie and community bonding among members of the Tangkhul community. In today’s opening matches, Kazingkha FC thrash Shangkha FC 6-0, while Safa FC edged past Seijang FC 5-4 in a closely contested match. The remaining fixtures will be played every Saturday over the next seven consecutive weeks.

According to the organisers, the Yarsho League was founded in February 2019 in Bengaluru by like-minded football enthusiasts, including Luckson Luikham, Tiitii Keishing, Lt. Jasper Zimik and Yuikan Shirik, with the support of fellow football lovers.

The league was conceived with the motto “Stay Fit and Connected”, with the broader objective of strengthening friendships, fostering community connections and creating a platform where members can come together to share and support one another through football.

The organisers said the league later expanded to Imphal following the arrival of core founder Luckson Luikham and Ringphami VS, with the initiative receiving support from several football enthusiasts in the state.
