Trump bans CNN, MS NOW, Politico over ‘fake news’

New Delhi (SHABD): US President Donald Trump said he was banning CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House, accusing the outlets of spreading “fake news” about his administration.

Trump did not specify what prompted the move but said that “media outlets shouldn’t be able to constantly write or report fiction and lies” while covering the President of the United States.

Later, in the Oval Office, Trump told reporters that somebody has a right to keep the outlets away if they are “going to write false stories all the time.”

The move drew immediate accusations that it was unconstitutional and would be overturned by the courts. The affected news outlets, meanwhile, said they would not be cowed.

Trump has filed multiple defamation lawsuits against news outlets and has repeatedly attacked the press on Truth Social.

The White House Correspondents’ Association, the independent body representing journalists covering the presidency, said it “stands in defense” of journalists “who are being singled out for doing their jobs.”

The extent of the ban announced by Trump was not immediately clear, and the legality of any such move could depend on its scope.
