Altogether Rs 1,01,08,950 has been collected as fines from violators of COVID-19 related lockdown and curfew in Manipur, according to the latest official data of the Manipur police department.
Since March 24, 2020, the day the lockdown commenced in Manipur as in other states of the country, the Manipur police has been cracking down against the lockdown and curfew violators. The police collected the fines from a total of 81,702 persons and 51,833 vehicles detained and penalised for violating the lockdown, curfew and other restrictions.
Manipur has altogether 16 districts and concerned district police conducted the drive and fined those violators.
As per a district wise data, Bishnupur district police collected the biggest amount of Rs 27,97,590 while penalising 18,155 persons and 8,521 vehicles.
By collecting Rs 27,03,320 from 33,119 persons and 17,379, Thoubal district police closely follows Bishnupur district.
Likewise, other districts of the state also collected fines by detaining violators. However, not a single case of penalising violators in the hill district of Pherzawl. Kamjong district also registered a negligible number of violations of the lockdown, curfew and COVID-19 SOP. Only 60 violators were detained and fined a total of Rs 12,000 only in this district.
Of the twin capital districts of the state, Imphal West district police collected a total of Rs 10,66,950 as fine by detaining 15,112 persons and 8,607 vehicles while Rs 7,00,700 was collected in Imphal East district where the police penalised 3,387 persons and 3,400 vehicles.
Meanwhile, to achieve the objective of the lockdown, the Police department has been conducting drives against people who defied the restrictions being imposed as a part of the lockdown. The Police department is also dealing with those who violate the lockdown with strong legal actions under the National Disaster Management Act 2005 and appropriate laws.
