The interaction programme provided an opportunity to learn and share good practices on climate change issues such as climate science, effective political advocacy, community-based adaptation, as well as the role of media in raising public awareness on climate communication and public access to information.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. T. Brajakumar Singh, Director, Directorate of Environment & Climate Change, Government of Manipur, stated the need to review the reports submitted by journalists who were awarded fellowships from the department. The Director mentioned that the fellowship was awarded to journalists working in the state, which he termed as an initiative of the department to campaign for combating climate change.
The basic idea of the joint interaction programme was to build the capacity of the media fellowship recipients and intending applicants for the fellowship on climate change reporting—especially journalists who are primarily working on different issues in the hill districts. It also aims to foster better understanding of climate facts, promote reporting in simple common language, and popularize people’s science.
Candidates from the 6th State Level Media Fellowship Program made their presentations during the session. A question-and-answer session followed, along with reflections from experts from the Media Resource Centre.
