UKHRUL: The first lady Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer from Manipur and former Indian Ambassador to Portugal, Primrose Raikhan Sharma, passed away on Thursday evening. She was the daughter of Lt. Mazachang Raikhan of Talui village in Ukhrul District. Her father was also the first Indian Railway Service officer from Manipur who later served as the Chairman of the Manipur Public Service Commission upon retirement.

Primrose Raikhan cleared the IFS in 1976 and served as the Indian Ambassador to Portugal in 2008. She also served as the Joint Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), First Secretary at the Indian Embassy in Tokyo, Japan, among others.
Following her demise, condolence messages have poured in with the Manipur Chief Minister, Y. Khemchand Singh, stating that her remarkable journey as one of the trailblazers from the Northeast will continue to inspire generations of young people to serve the nation with dedication and excellence. He extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family on behalf of the people of Manipur.
Former Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, extending his heartfelt condolences, stated that her extraordinary achievements and unwavering dedication to public service will remain an enduring inspiration for generations to come.

Ukhrul Constituency Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Ram Muivah has also extended his condolences to the bereaved family, describing her as articulate, gifted, and tall leader. He describes her as a very articulate person coming from an illustrious family. He stated that her father was the first Indian Railway Service officer from Manipur, and her sister, Christenssen Raikhan Chhibber, was the first lady Indian Administrative Service officer from Manipur.
MLA Ram Muivah also shared the time he spent with her while she was serving in various capacities, including Regional Passport Officer in Jaipur and during Bharat Darshan. He also stated that during her long and outstanding career, she had worked in Japan, South Africa, Colombo, London, Belgium, Italy, the USA, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Panama. She also imparted training to officers of neighbouring countries, including Afghanistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Bhutan, Mauritius, and the Maldives. After her supernuation, she was looking after her family’s “Nillai Tea Estate” in Talui (Talloi) in Ukhrul District, he added.
