FOCS to Launch Peace Expedition in Manipur High Sensitive Hill Areas on March 8

Ukhrul, Mar 4: The Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS), Manipur on Tuesday announced a peace expedition in high-sensitivity hill areas starting March 8.

The initiative, supported by 20 like-minded organisations, aims to promote peace and free movement, following Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent directive to officials and security forces to ensure Free Movement on all Roads in Manipur from March 8. FOCS President Th. Manihar urged all indigenous communities to support the mission and called on groups obstructing movement to withdraw their stance.

Meanwhile, Kuki community groups have strongly opposed the Centre’s order for free movement, reiterating their demand for a Separate Administration. During the 22nd Remembrance Day observed today at Martyrs’ Cemetery, Phaijang, Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) and Kuki Women’s Organisation for Human Rights declared that no unrestricted movement will be allowed in Kuki-dominated areas until their political demands are met.

This comes as Amit Shah chaired a high-level security review in Delhi on March 1, marking the first major discussion since Manipur was placed under President’s Rule. The Home Minister stressed strict action against any attempt to disrupt law and order, and also directed the expedited completion of border fencing to curb illegal crossings.

Manipur remains on edge as the FOCS-led expedition and Kuki opposition set the stage for potential confrontations over the Centre’s push for free movement.
