Four Arrested for Hunting Amur Falcon in Tamenglong

Tamenglong: Despite ban on hunting of Amur falcon and ban order on use of air guns in Tamenglon district, a combined team of Forest and Police team today arrested four persons for allegedly hunting Amur falcons in Chiuluan roosting site with two air guns.

The four persons interrogated at the police station by the combined team are identified as John Gangmei S/o Dibuanang, Jaojiandai Gangmei S/o Thiurei, Jaokinlak Gangmei S/o Thiurei, Gailiang Gangmei S/o Kalu Gangmei.

All the hunter accused are said to be from Khangchuiluan village.

According to sources, the four hunters were reportedly fined with Rs 5000 and the two air guns in their possession were seized by the Forest Department under Wildlife Protection Act 1972. They were released from the police station after a strict warning to refrain from hunting Amur falcons in the future which is an illegal act.

It may be mentioned that a posters campaign was organised by Tamenglong Forest Division and Rainforest Club Tamenglong to save Amur falcon on October 21 at Tamenglong. “Amur Falcon 2021” or “Gaklou Dikho Akhoipuina 2021” was launched by Awanbow Newmai, minister Forest, Environment and Climate Change, government of Manipur.
