Four persons held with over 1 kg of brown sugar in Kangpokpi

Imphal: Four alleged drug peddlers including a woman were arrested in Kangpokpi district of Manipur with 1.018 kg of brown sugar on Monday, the police said on Tuesday.

The arrested alleged woman drug peddler was identified as Asheibam Thoibi Devi (38) of Imphal East. She was arrested with Md Abdul Matalip (40) of Thoubal district, according to the police.

The two other persons identified as Narendra Mahawar (39) of Imphal West and Md Abdul Nasir of Thoubal district were arrested in a follow up action to the disclosure made by the duo.

A police source said that a team of Kangpokpi district first arrested the woman along with Md Abdul Matalip who were travelling in a vehicle after 1.018 kg of brown sugar were recovered from their possession.

The police also detained the vehicle, the source said.

In the follow up action, the team also arrested another two persons identified as Narendra Mahawar, who was allegedly involved in transfer of money through hundi for the drug consignment and Md Abdul Nasir of Thoubal district who was involved in this illegal drug business.

The team also seized one Fortuner vehicle from Abdul Nasir which was used in the transportation of drugs.  The arrested persons and the seized items were handed over to Kangpokpi police station after lodging a case against them, the police source added.
