Governor, CM Praises Security Forces, Calls for Stronger Inter-Community Relations

IMPHAL: Manipur chief minister Yumnam Khemchand has stressed the need for public support and co-operation in the government’s endeavour to bring better relations among different communities. The chief minister was speaking at the Investiture Ceremony for the Governor’s Unit Citation 2026 at the Manipur State Film Development Society in Imphal on Wednesday.

Manipur has been experiencing difficult times since the violence broke on May 3, 2023. Businesses, educational institutions and many other fronts have been adversely affected by the crisis.

Chief minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh then commended the contribution of both the central and state forces in providing humanitarian services and saving the lives of people from different communities. Acknowledging the crucial role played by the security forces in maintaining law and order and in restoring peace and normalcy in the state, the chief minister stressed the need for public support and cooperation in the government’s efforts to strengthen the bonding among different communities.

Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, graced the occasion. During the solemn ceremony, the Governor presented Governor’s Citations to outstanding units of the Army, Assam Rifles, CRPF, BSF, BRTF, and District Police of Manipur in recognition of their exemplary service in the state. 

Addressing the event, the Governor described the occasion as not merely ceremonial but a moment of reflection, gratitude, and recognition. He paid tribute to the unwavering dedication, courage, and exemplary service of the armed forces, who have worked tirelessly to uphold peace and stability in the State. Referring to the challenging circumstances faced by Manipur in recent years, the Governor noted that the security forces stood firm as pillars of strength, operating under demanding conditions while maintaining law and order and restoring a sense of security among the people.

The Governor also acknowledged the invaluable support and sacrifices of the families of personnel, noting that their strength and encouragement remain integral to the service of the forces, and highlighted that the Governor’s Unit Citation recognises collective excellence, teamwork, discipline, and an unwavering commitment to duty across operations. He emphasised that true strength lies in the judicious and restrained use of force, noting that the conduct of the forces has strengthened public confidence and aided the return of normalcy. He also highlighted the need for continued synergy between the security forces and civil administration, while congratulating the awardees for setting benchmarks of excellence.
