Imphal: The Indian Army apprehend 22 miscreants with sophisticated weapons and warlike stores in Manipur

The PRO Defence Kohima and Imphal in a press release today said the Army apprehended 22 miscreants with weapons and other war like stores on Sunday.

The release said the Army was moblised columns to establish multiple Mobile Vehicle Check Posts (MVCP) and undertake search operations on receiving specific information about presence of armed miscreants venturing out for buring houses in Sanasabi, Gwaltabi and Shabunkhol Khunao in YKPI bowl in the hilly region of Imphal East District of Manipur.

While operating in the area, the Army columns were fired upon from automatic weapon by miscreants who were trying to burn the houses, the PRO Defence press release said.

The Army apprehended 22 miscreants with weapons and other war like stores during the operation. Five 12 bore double barrel rifles, three single barrel rifles, one country made weapon with double bore and one muzzle loaded weapon were recovered. Swift action by Army averted loss of precious lives and multiple incidents of arson, it added.

All the twenty two miscreants along with apprehended weapons and war like stores were handed over to Manipur Police, PRO Defence said.

In a separate press note, Sugnu and Serou villages of Kakching District witnessed destruction to men and material in violent clashes on 28 May 2023. Villagers of both the communities were stranded in pockets under the protection of security forces. In a major evacuation drive organised by Army and Assam Rifles in coordination with Police, State Administration and Civil Society Organisations, nearly 2000 Meitei villagers were evacuated from Serou to Pangaltabi Relief Camp and nearly 328 Kuki villagers evacuated to Sajik Tampak from Sugnu in Defence and private vehicles under protection of Assam Rifles. While aerial surveillance cover was given by UAVs, Mine Protected Vehicles and Area Domination Patrols were put in place on ground to ensure safe & incident free evacuation. Medical aid to those in need was given by service doctors. Indian Army and Assam Rifles remain committed to undertake people friendly operations & ensure safety of all citizens & would request all citizens of Manipur to shun violence for a peaceful Manipur, said PRO Defence.
