Gunfire Incident near CRPF Camp in Churachandpur: Three Arrested, Including Two Police Personnel

Ukhrul, April 25: The Churachandpur Superintendent of Police in a press release said that two serving police constables, namely, Paominthang Haokip and Thonglenkhai were arrested in connection with the firing incident near the G/129 Battalion CRPF campus close to the Old DC Guest House in Churachandpur on April 24 early hours.

According to a statement, the incident occurred around 2:40 am when shots were fired in the air from a moving white vehicle by “unidentified assailants” reportedly coming from the Churachandpur College side and said that a CRPF sentry on duty at the main gate promptly retaliated with a single round of fire, which led to the fleeing of the suspects.

A case was promptly registered under FIR No. 68(4)2025 CCP-PS, invoking sections 351(2)/3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and 25(1-C) of the Arms Act. A coordinated investigation was launched involving the District Police, CRPF, and 19 Garhwal Rifles. Authorities reviewed CCTV footage, gathered ground intelligence, and activated multiple check-posts to track the culprits.

By 3:00 pm on the same day, the white vehicle used in the shooting was located and intercepted. One individual, identified as Mr. Mangkholun Haokip, was taken into custody. A 9mm pistol believed to have been used in the incident was subsequently recovered. Further investigations revealed the suspected involvement of two serving police constables, Paominthang Haokip and Thonglenkhai, who have since been arrested in connection with the case, the statement said.

The District Police in the statement reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order and assured the public that such incidents are treated with utmost seriousness. “The swift apprehension of all suspects within 24 hours demonstrates our zero-tolerance policy towards acts of violence,” said the SP’s office.
