Ukhrul: Hunphun Phungcham Football Association (HPFA) is the champion of the Wung Football League 2024. HPFA outclassed Oriental Football Club by a score margin of 9-0 to clinch the second edition of Wung Football League 2024, for the second time in a row.
HPFA was also the champion of the first edition of the Wung Football League in 2023. HPFA was established in 2012 to promote and popularise football in the district.
In the match played today, Somishon Shirak scored 4 goals, Thomyo L Shimray and Rungsing Muinao netted 2 goals each and Ayat Chiphang scored 1 goal as they hammered Oriental Football Club by a score margin of 9-0 in the last match of the league and clinched the Wung Football League Champions for the second time in a row.
HPFA and Meiphung FC were tied with 19 points each in the league table. However, HPFA prevailed over Meiphung FC by a goal difference of 8 goals and walked away with the coveted title along with a cash prize of Rs.2.5 lakh.

“The 4 teams, Meiphung FC, Vareihao FC, Haokok FC and United Brothers FC will view the WFL Cup 2024. Meiphung FC will clash with Vareihao FC on Wednesday and Haokok FC will meet United Brothers FC on Thursday. The winner of the Wednesday match and Thursday match will fight for the WFL Cup 2024 on Saturday, which will carry a cash prize of Rs. 1.5 Lakh” stated Worngachan Shatsang, secretary of the the Wung Football League.
Introduced in 2023, the Wung Football League has gained momentum as one of the leading football tournaments in the Ukhrul district.
