Imphal: No newspapers for next five days owing to Yaoshang festival

Imphal: Newspapers will not hit stands for the next five days in Imphal on account of Yaoshang festival, the biggest festival of Manipur, which coincides with Holi and would be celebrated over the next five-day, which began today.

Business establishments, government offices and banks remain closed in these five days. Even ATMs don’t work as there will be no one to replenish them daily.

However, government offices and banks remain closed only for three days as only a three day holiday is given to them for the festival.

The real festive show of Holi is celebrated in Govindajee temple, Imphal, where all traditional activities of celebration of the festival are organized every year.

On the occasion, Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey, chief minister N Biren Singh, ministers, leaders of political parties and others extended their greetings to the people of the state.
