Imphal: Police nab two including woman with Rs 35 crore worth drugs

Imphal: Two persons including a woman were arrested with 1.016 kg of brown sugar worth over Rs 35 crore in the international market in Imphal, a police source said on Thursday.

A team of special commando unit of Manipur police intercepted the two alleged drug peddlers during a frisking and checking in a place under Porompat police station of Imphal East district on Wednesday evening, around 5.15 pm, the police source also said.

The alleged woman drug peddler was identified as Deikhoting and her associate as Khailenkhup. Both are residents of Chandel district, said the police.

Police commandos on frisking and checking duty stopped the two persons who came on foot on suspicion and detained them for verification.

While checking a carry bag in Deikhoting’s possession, the personnel detected two plastic polythene bags marked as “A” and “B” containing brown sugar.

The polythene bag marked as ‘A ‘ was found containing 507 gram of brown sugar and the other marked as “B” 509 gram of brown sugar.

Further search led to the recovery of a cash amount Rs 2550 from the possession of the woman.

The arrested alleged drug peddlers along with the seized items were handed over to Porompat police station for further necessary legal action against them, the police also said.

It added that approximately the prices of the seized drugs in the international market would be Rs 35 crore.
