Ukhrul, Mar 14: Firmly supporting the Naga people’s resolution opposing the revocation of the Free Movement Regime and the construction of border fencing along the Indo-Myanmar border, the All Inpui Students’ Union (AISU) has condemned the Home Minister’s call for acceleration of the border fence construction.

In a press note, the union stated that the Nagas constitute the majority population in the Indo-Myanmar border region and have the inherent right to be actively involved in any decision-making process that affects their lives and land. It also stated that the Nagas have maintained free interaction and movement across the border, fostering cultural, social, and economic ties for generations.

“The unilateral revocation of the Free Movement Regime and the initiation of border fencing construction without the consent and approval of the Naga people constitute a blatant violation of their rights. Historically, the Naga community has been artificially divided by external forces, placing them across two nations and subjecting them to persistent political, social, and economic challenges due to this imposed division,” the union asserted.

The union, denouncing the Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement, reiterated that the imposition of artificial boundaries does not serve the interests of the Naga people but only exacerbates the existing divisions hindering their aspirations for unity, self-determination, and progress.

The AISU then called upon the concerned authorities to respect the rights and voices of the Naga people, urging them to engage in inclusive dialogue before implementing any policies that impact their lives and land.
