International Women’s Day: ABVP Imphal Organises Marathon

IMPHAL: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) Imphal Mahanagar on Sunday organised a marathon in collaboration with the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports (YAS), Khelo Bharat and Khelo India at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, Imphal on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

The event was graced by Manipur Home and Youth Affairs & Sports Minister Konthoujam Govindas as the Chief Guest. The Guests of Honour included Manipur BJP president A Sharda Devi, ABVP national secretary Kamlesh Singh, and state Department of Youth Affairs & Sports secretary Naorem Praveen Singh. The programme was presided over by ABVP Manipur president professor Premlata Meisnam.

The marathon was held under the theme “Screen Time to Running Time,” encouraging youth and students to shift from excessive digital screen time to a healthy, active lifestyle through sports and physical activity.

The marathon featured two categories: 15 km Run and 7 km Women Empowerment Run, witnessing enthusiastic participation from runners, students, sportspersons, and fitness enthusiasts from different parts of Manipur. The event created a vibrant sporting atmosphere and highlighted the spirit of unity, discipline, and determination among the participants, AVBP said in a statement.

In the 15 km Men’s category, Kengimlungheing secured the 1st position while Kh Zabed Hussain and Chuchangmeren Ao secured the 2nd position and 3rd position, respectively.

In the 15 km Women’s category, L Tutu secured the 1st position, followed by Ky Jamuni in 2nd place, and Shonchuihan Kasar in 3rd place. 

In the 7 km Women Empowerment Run, T Rusia secured the 1st position, T Sophiya finished in the 2nd place, and W Bidyalaxmi secured the 3rd position. 

Seven-year-old M Chanu Chakpisana and eight-year-old Henry Maisnam were recognised as the Youngest Participants in the marathon.

During the programme, the dignitaries appreciated the initiative by ABVP Imphal Mahanagar to organise such a meaningful event that not only promotes fitness and sports culture but also spreads the message of women’s empowerment, discipline, and a healthy lifestyle among the youth. They emphasised that sports play a crucial role in building confidence, leadership qualities, and mental strength among young people.

“The marathon also served as a platform to celebrate the strength, determination, and achievements of women in society, inspiring young girls and students to actively participate in sports and outdoor activities. Participants and attendees pledged to reduce unnecessary screen time and dedicate more time to physical activities for better health and well-being,” ABVP stated.

Meanwhile, ABVP Imphal Mahanagar expressed its sincere gratitude to the collaborating organisations, dignitaries, volunteers, and participants for their valuable support and enthusiastic involvement, which made the event a grand success. 

The organisation also reaffirmed its commitment to continue organising such activities in the future to promote youth development, fitness awareness, and social responsibility across Manipur.
