Jennifer Luikham Finishes Runner-Up at ITF Women’s Tennis Tournament at Tunisia

The 21-year-old Indian tennis sensation, Jennifer Luikham of Ukhrul was defeated by Luksika Kumkhum of Thailand, Asian Games champion at the ITF women’s tennis at Monastir, Tunisia 6-2, 6-2, finishing runner-up on Sunday.

The ITF women’s tennis prize of $15,000 just skipped passed her after she beat Mara Guth of Germany to reach the finals on Saturday 1-6, 6-4, 7-5.

She beat sixth seed Elena Milovanovic of Siberia in the quarterfinals on Friday 6-7(8), 6-3, and 6-4.

Jennifer Luikham at 21 now, is ranked 11th (994 worldwide) in the Indian women singles category and is considered one of the hottest prospects in Indian tennis.

In an exclusive interview with Ukhrul Times in July 23 she optimistically said, “If everything goes to plan and the pandemic subsides, I hope I will be able to play in one of the Grand Slams in the next three years. It would be great if my Tangkhul community can see me play for the first time in a grand slam match on TV. That is also a big goal and a dream.”
