Jiribam-Silchar Passenger Train Service Resumes after 2 years of hiatus

Imphal: To provide better connectivity from Manipur’s Jiribam to Assam’s Silchar, N. Biren Singh and Union Minister of State for Railways, Raosaheb Patil Danve flagged off train service through video link at Imphal Sunday evening.

CM N Biren Singh said he was delighted to virtually flag off railway service for this particular route.

Union Minister Raosaheb Danve upon his arrival in Imphal on Sunday inspected the ongoing construction with officials, tunnel Number 12 at Saheibung Village near Sangaithel. He expressed happiness over the completion of 7 Kilometres out of the total 10 km stretch of the tunnel, and assured completion of Jiribam-Imphal Railway Project by 2023.

While speaking to media in his two day visit to Manipur, Raosaheb Danve said that railway connectivity in Northeast states is one of PM Modi’s biggest aspirations. He also added that there is no lack of funding for completion of the project. The centre government has sanctioned huge fund, he said.

The Union Minister also expressed disappointment over Land Acquisition and Forest related hindrances to the railway project. The other hindrance, he said was the lack of labourers due to Covid-19 Pandemic.
