JNC Locks Airtel Office in Jowai Over Failure to Install Network Tower

SHILLONG: The Western Zone of the Jaiñtia National Council (JNC), led by its President Hamehi Bamon, along with members of the organization, on Thursday locked the Airtel office located at Ladthalaboh, Jowai. The action was taken in response to the company’s failure to fulfill its earlier commitment to improve network connectivity in the region.

According to JNC, on January 28 the organization held a meeting with senior officials of Airtel to address the persistent issue of poor network coverage, particularly at Woodland Hospital in Sabah Muswang. During the meeting, Airtel representatives assured the JNC that a network tower would be installed in Sabah Muswang within three to four months after securing a suitable site.

However, the organization expressed disappointment over lapse of the promised timeframe with no tangible progress being made by the company. The JNC further stated that repeated attempts to communicate with Airtel officials have yielded vague and unsatisfactory responses, with no clear timeline provided for the commencement of the project.

In light of the continued inaction and lack of accountability, the JNC Western Zone resorted to locking the Airtel office as a form of protest. The organization emphasized that the move was necessary to compel the company to provide a clear commitment and initiate immediate steps toward fulfilling its earlier promise.

The JNC also warned that stronger measures may be undertaken if Airtel fails to respond promptly and address the network issues affecting the residents, particularly critical services such as healthcare connectivity at Woodland Hospital.
