Shillong: Following the sudden dismissal of nine home guards from the Khliehriat powergrid, the Jaiñtia National Council (JNC) has stepped in to mediate, resulting in an employment extension and sparking a renewed demand for local hiring practices.

After allowing time for the department to resolve the issue internally, the JNC Employment Commission held a meeting with the chief manager of Khliehriat powergrid, Sanatanu Das. During the discussion, Shri Das informed the Council that the employment of the nine dismissed home guards had been extended by an additional three months.

In an official press release, JNC President Sambormi Lyngdoh expressed his appreciation for the department’s responsiveness in the matter. He emphasized the importance of employing local residents and questioned the relevance of such departments if local youth are excluded from employment opportunities.

The JNC president also called upon the District Commandant of Home Guards to use the extended period to address the situation and explore a resolution that benefits the affected personnel.

Further, he urged the state government to take immediate steps to prevent such issues in the future. The Council reaffirmed its commitment to defending the rights and safety of local home guards and highlighted the potential for employment generation in nearby industries such as cement and coke plants, which could help tackle youth unemployment in the region.
