Imphal, June 26: An MA-1 rifle and a cache of other arms and ammunition were recovered following the arrest of a cadre of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group), or KCP (PWG), during an intelligence-based operation in Manipur. The operation is part of the state’s ongoing crackdown on extortion and criminal activities, police said on Thursday.
On Monday, June 23, security forces arrested Mutum Manaocha Singh alias Khullakpa, 44, a resident of Tronglaobi Makha Leikai, from one of the floating huts at Champu Khangpok near the Karang area under Keibul Lamjao police station in Bishnupur district, police said. From his possession, security personnel recovered a 9mm pistol along with one magazine and two live rounds, they added.

The floating huts, reportedly used as a transit camp and hideout by militants, were thoroughly searched. Several logistical items such as blankets, a gas stove, a table fan, a pressure cooker, and plates were recovered. The huts were later dismantled by the authorities, it added.
Following the interrogation of the arrested cadre, a follow-up operation was launched at Nachou Awang Leikai, Patton Sallam Maton under Bishnupur police station. From the site, security forces recovered one MA-1 rifle with three magazines, thirty-one rounds of 5.56 mm live ammunition, and two SMG carbines with two magazines, the police added.
Security forces continue to intensify operations to neutralize militant networks and dismantle their infrastructure in the state.
