Ukhrul, October 9: The Kuki Liberation Army – Letkholun (KLA-L) said to be the Government of Kukiland has issued a statement questioning the recent move by 26 MLAs, led by former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, to form a new government in Manipur.

In a press communiqué issued on on October 8, 2025, titled “Not Our Government, Not Our Problem”, the KLA-L said the initiative “warrants scrutiny regarding the veracity of their intentions and the jurisdictional paradigm they seek to operate within.”

The group alleged that the attempt to constitute a new government appeared to be “an ostensible exercise in power consolidation,” claiming it lacked a “nuanced understanding of the state’s complex socio-political dynamics.”

“It is intriguing that these MLAs, purportedly representing the entirety of Manipur, seem to have a circumscribed sphere of influence, ostensibly limited to a specific region,” the statement read. The KLA-L further remarked that the legislators should “demonstrate their governance acumen within the 650 sq. miles of Kangleipak,” referring to the area they “ostensibly claim to represent.”

Urging elected representatives from the Kuki community to take a clear position, the outfit called upon the Kuki MLAs to “introspect on their role in this unfolding drama” and consider resigning from the state assembly if they are “genuinely committed to upholding democratic governance and accountability.”
