CHURACHANDPUR: The Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO), Churachandpur, on Thursday convened a press meet at its administrative office in Tuibong, where its president, Minlal Gangte, accompanied by Vice President (Admin) DJ Haokip, outlined key resolutions adopted during a recent General Assembly.
The Assembly, held between March 13 and 14, at the remote village of L. Khaukual, was organised under the theme “Be a Harbinger of Change in Societal Development.” The gathering deliberated on pressing issues affecting the region and adopted several resolutions aimed at addressing ongoing developmental challenges.
Addressing the media, the KSO president emphasised that a central focus of the Assembly was the persistent developmental disparity in Manipur. He stressed the need for equitable growth across all regions, underscoring the importance of implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and other educational reforms to strengthen the sector. He added that ensuring all educational institutions in the district operate in accordance with NEP guidelines remains a priority.
Highlighting key outcomes, Gangte stated that significant resolutions were passed concerning rural infrastructure. These include the urgent need for electrification and mobile network connectivity in L. Khaukual and surrounding areas. The organisation also resolved to conduct literary meets, organise felicitation programmes, and promote compliance with NEP guidelines, while advocating for sustainable development initiatives in the region.
In a separate press handout, KSO pointed out that L. Khaukual village, located along the Imphal River near Gun Lui close to the Indo-Myanmar border, continues to lack electricity and mobile connectivity. The organisation described this as a glaring gap in basic infrastructure, contradicting the 2018 official declaration that all Indian villages had been electrified under the Prime Minister’s vision of universal rural electrification.

The Assembly further noted that such deficiencies are not limited to L. Khaukual. Data collected by the organisation indicates that at least six other villages in Sangaikot Sub-Division—Saisom, G. Gamphazawl, Selshi, Haopijang, T. Canaan, and S. Gelbung continue to face similar challenges related to power connectivity.
The KSO Churachandpur District has strongly urged the concerned authorities to take immediate and concrete steps to address these infrastructural gaps and ensure the provision of basic amenities at the earliest, in the larger interest of the public.
