Kuki Inpi Manipur Opposes RSS’s ‘Chalo Manipur’ March

Ukhrul, May 6: The apex body representing the Kuki tribes in Manipur, Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), has issued a scathing condemnation of the recently announced “Chalo Manipur” march, accusing it of being a veiled attempt to forcibly enter Kuki-inhabited hill areas under the pretense of rehabilitating displaced Meitei individuals.

In a strongly worded press release issued on May 6, 2025, KIM labeled the proposed march, reportedly backed by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and affiliated groups, as “provocative, disingenuous, and dangerous.” KIM has warned that such a mobilisation could further inflame the already volatile situation in Manipur, potentially leading to renewed communal violence and bloodshed.

KIM alleged that the campaign, which is expected to be launched from Delhi, represents a larger pattern of marginalising the hill tribes. “This is not a march for peace or rehabilitation. It is a march for domination, occupation, and ethnic annihilation, and it must be stopped,” the release stated.

The organization also criticized Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh’s administration, accusing it of turning a blind eye to vigilante violence and pursuing one-sided policies that embolden majoritarian forces while leaving hill communities vulnerable. It described the current state approach as a continuation of efforts to displace Kukis from their ancestral lands.

Calling on the Government of India and security agencies to intervene immediately, KIM urged authorities to halt the planned march before it triggers further unrest. The group also appealed to international human rights bodies and national media to monitor the situation closely and hold accountable those responsible for any resulting violence.

“If the march proceeds, the Government of India and the Manipur State Government must be held fully responsible for any loss of life or destruction of property,” warned Janghaolun Haokip, KIM’s Secretary for Information & Publicity.

It may be recalled that in September 2024, the Gau Dhwaj Yatra, (promotion of a ban on cow slaughter), was prohibited by the authority in the districts of Dimapur, Chumoukedima and Niuland in Nagaland.
