Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh Slams Media for Labeling Meghalaya ‘Crime Prone’

Shillong, May 30: Meghalaya Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh today slammed a newspaper for branding Meghalaya as a ‘crime prone state’ and said the matter will be taken up at an appropriate level.

This came a day after one of the dailies branded Meghalaya as “crime prone” while reporting about the missing of the tourist couple from Madhya Pradesh, while they were on a honeymoon in Sohra in Meghalaya, known for its famous tourist spots.

Paul informed reporters, “It (one of the dailies) has dubbed Meghalaya as a crime prone state, but we are not surprised because that media, a big section of it, has always had this bias against the North East but we will take this up at the appropriate level.”

He said, “Today when I was at a programme where we had the parasailing contest for the past five days all the luminaries who attended were from various parts of the country and they said that they have not noticed a state which is as responsible and as clean and as peaceful as Meghalaya. So, it is really unfortunate but then again, this just shows the bias that they have against us.”
