Ukhrul, June 6: In response to multiple landslides reported around the Khumji Market area, the Deputy Commissioner of Noney, Sharath Chandra Arroju, has issued an urgent directive under the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) for immediate action to prevent loss of life and property.
Following a field inspection conducted by the Sub-Divisional Officer of Haochong on Friday, unstable terrain due to continuous rainfall was found to pose serious threats to nearby habitations and roads. The DC has assigned specific responsibilities to key departments for swift and coordinated response.

The Superintendent of Police, Noney, has been tasked with securing the area, regulating traffic, and launching public announcements to warn residents, especially students and children, about danger zones. The SDO, Haochong, will oversee evacuation, provide relief assistance, and assess risks to nearby households.
Meanwhile, the Public Works Department (PWD) and NHIDCL have been directed to immediately begin slope stabilization and hill protection works to ensure safe passage along the Karuangmuan-Nungtek road and adjoining villages. The Chief Medical Officer has been instructed to keep emergency medical services and ambulances ready.

The DC has emphasized that the matter must be treated with utmost urgency, warning that any delay or lapse in action will be taken seriously. All departments have been asked to coordinate closely and submit regular status reports.
