Imphal: The law and order situation remains tense in Manipur due to lack of necessary intervention, with the ongoing conflict in the state reaching three months today.
Over 40 women have been injured due to firing of tear gas and smoke bomb to disperse protesters by Rapid Action Forces and Assam Rifles at Kangvai Baazar today. Thousands of womenfolk confronted the Assam Rifle and RAF to let them pass through what they called, Meitei area of Torbung Gram Panchayat.

Assam Rifles and Rapid Action Force deployed at Tiddim road has blocked off Tiddim road leading to Torbung Bangla.
The incident broke out at around 11 am on Thursday when womenfolk from various parts of the Imphal valley headed Torbung Bangla area to stop the proposed mass burial of 35 Kuki-Zo people, the situation remains grim.

The Assam Rifle and RAF after intense scuffle with the Meitei womenfolk protestors in thousands resorted to firing tear gas shells and smoke bomb to disperse the mob. Large number of protestors, most of who are women, while escaping from the gas shells by the security forces were injured.
Meanwhile, reports of firing between state security forces and armed groups at Senjam Chirang and Koutruk adjoining, and Phougakchao Ikhai in Bishnupur District since early Thursday has been reported.
Till the time of filing this report, a jawan of 6 Manipur Rifles, Tourangbam Rishi (48) suffered a critical bullet wound on his head during the firing incident at Senjam Chirang and Koutruk adjoining areas. He was rushed to Raj Medicity in Imphal.

Amid the tense situation in the state’s periphery, a large number of people coming from Chingmeirong and North A.O.C tried to storm the 2nd Manipur Rifles complex, demanding to give them arms and ammunition to protect themselves, condemning the government for failing to protect them.
In view of the tense situation, the earlier orders for curfew relaxation from 5 am to 8 pm on August 3 in Imphal West and Imphal East Districts were revoked and District administrations imposed a total curfew with immediate effect until further notice in these two districts to prevent any untoward incidents.
