Imphal: Manipur Security Advisor and Chairman of Unified Command Kuldiep Singh has confirmed that Wednesday’s fierce attack on Manipur Police Commandoes were carried out by Kuki militants. He further hinted at the involvement of Myanmar based militants in carrying out the violent attack, employing sophisticated weapons and explosives including RPGs. He also informed that Manipur Police IG K. Kabib was flown to Moreh on Thursday on the IAF helicopter sent by MHA Wednesday night to lead the Joint Command Center in Moreh.

Briefing the media on the recent Moreh Attack and steps taken by Government at CM’s Secretariat Thursday evening, Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh said that a large number of Kuki militants started firing on Manipur Police Commando Posts which are located at three different places in Moreh namely Ridge Hotel, GM hotel and SBI, since early in the morning. He also said that government has been getting intelligence report from before that Peoples Defence Force insurgents operating at Moreh and maybe some reinforcement from Burma (Myanmar) side also may attack the state forces at Moreh and with that, forces were prepared. And from large number of days, these kind of attacks were coming but these attacks were from far areas. But yesterday, it started coming from nearby areas, he added.
Kuldiep Singh also said Assam Rifles along with Commandos and BSF tried their best to thwart the militants’ attack but one Commando W. Somorjit of 6th MR was killed in the morning and another Commando T. Saileshwore later in the day. He also mentioned about the injured commandos in the incident. The Security Advisor went on to say that militants targeted only the Manipur Police Commandos and soon the commandos ran out of ammunition. BSF and Assam Rifles then shared their ammunition and kept on tackling the insurgents. Later, by evening all the forces combined together launched their massive attack on the militants and they were pushed back. Meanwhile, state government arranged reinforcement and decided on sending two companies of BSF, two columns of Army and four Casper vehicles so that the combined security forces including the state commandos can form Rapid Action Teams which can be located in different places of Moreh, the security advisor said.

It may be mentioned that widespread protest demonstrations were carried out by CSOs, Women vendors and others on Thursday demanding replacement of Manipur Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh as Chairman of Unified Command and to transfer the same to Manipur Chief Minister.
