IMPHAL: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Monday assured that the state government would take responsibility for the safety of the people belonging to the Kuki-Zo community who visit Imphal, including medical treatment.
The assurance was given during the flagging off programme of the project of “Strengthening of existing pavement from km 0.00 to km 15.35 and km 30.00 to km 45.00 of NH-137A (Imphal-Kakching Lamkhai section)” held at the Langthabal Lep Makha Leikai, Imphal West. The project had been sanctioned by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH), Government of India.

CM Khemchand expressed hopefulness of timely completion and sincerity of the contractors. The chief minister further instructed the contractors to maintain quality of work and complete them on time.
Replying to a query regarding the deadline for completion of the road project from the chief minister, the concerned contractors assured to complete the same before April-end.
Speaking of the airlifting of Thanlon AC MLA Vungzagin Valte from Imphal Airport to New Delhi for medical treatment on Sunday afternoon, the chief minister extended his best wishes for speedy recovery of the MLA.

Meanwhile, Minister Khuraijam Loken Singh praised the chief minister for his initiative to commence the highway strengthening work, which, he claimed, had been left unattended for a very long time.
The minister further urged the people of the state to avoid causing any hindrance to the developmental works being taken up.
“The new government will give utmost priority to the resettlement of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and restoring peace, ” he added, while seeking support from the public.
The flagging off programme, organised by the state Public Works Department, was also attended by Minister Konthoujam Govindas Singh, MLAs, chief secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, commissioner to chief minister N Ashok Kumar, Imphal West Deputy Commissioner Mayanglambam Rajkumar, Public Works Department chief engineer Chongtham Biswachandra Singh and officials of Works Department, among others.
