UKHRUL: Four people, including three women, were killed while several others injured after a pick-up van carrying wedding guests plunged into a gorge in Manipur’s Churachandpur district on Tuesday (January 6), police said.
The accident occurred around noon near the remote Ngaljang village in the Singngat sub-division when the vehicle, carrying around 30 to 40 passengers, failed to negotiate a sharp turn on a hilly road and fell into a deep gorge. The vehicle had been hired to ferry guests attending a wedding.
Police said the driver lost control of the van, which rolled several times down the steep hillside before coming to a halt in a field below. The deceased were identified as Thangmuanmung Khuptong, Hauchiin, Chingngaihsiam, and Niangzaniang.

Rescue operations were launched immediately, with local residents, police, and security personnel rushing to the spot. The injured were shifted to nearby health facilities, where some are reported to be in critical condition.
Police have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
