Manipur Government Warns Against Anti- Social Elements

UKHRUL: The Manipur government has issued a strong warning against anti-social elements attempting to disrupt peace in the state. 

The state government stated that some organizations were attempting to disrupt the peace in Manipur by threatening and intimidating the law-abiding citizens of the state, adding that actions have already been initiated against such anti-social elemeas by Manipur Police.

It may be mentioned that some G5 insurgent groups had issued threats against participants of the Sumang Leela Associations and other performers at the recently concluded Manipur Sangai Festival 2025

According to the Manipur Police, a total of five cases have been registered across Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Thoubal and Kakching Districts. At least three G5 cadres have so far been arrested in connection with these cases. 

Stating that any attempt to intimidate or endanger the safety and security of any citizen is an act against the state and its people, the government reaffirmed that no individual, group or organization—whether proscribed or otherwise—has authority to issue decrees, impose punishment or restrict the lawful cultural, economic or artistic activities in Manipur. 

“Any individual or organization, without exception, found involved in issuing such threats or attempting to disturb the peaceful co-existence shall be prosecuted strictly in accordance with law,” it warned.

The state government appealed to the general public to immediately report any instance of threat, extortion, coercion, or suspicious activity to the nearest Police Station, while reiterating its unwavering commitment to safeguard the people of Manipur. 

“It is an earnest appeal to the citizens to stand united against unlawful elements and to cooperate in the initiatives of the state government towards maintaining peace, harmony and public order to bring back the state to the path of growth and development,” it stated.

It further stated that prompt punitive action will be taken on all credible reports against those threatening the lives and properties of people of Manipur. 

“The government had earlier established an Anti-extortion Cell under the Home Department. The toll-free number for the anti-extortion cell is I 800 202 3326 and is operational 24 x 7. Identity of the informant will be kept confidential,” it added.
