Imphal: Manipur police on Friday arrested five cadres of an underground group with a cache of arms and ammunition during a search operation in the Imphal East district.
The police said that five cadres of KCP (Military Task Force) were arrested during the search operation by police commandos attached to Imphal East district police at Yairipok Yambem and Changamdabi villages under the Andro police station of Imphal East district.

A cache of arms and ammunition including a 1.32 pistol, one magazine with six live rounds in the magazine, 4.38 live ammunition, six rounds of AK- ammunition, 12 rounds of INSAS ammunition, 20 rounds of 20 7.62 SLR ammunition, five mobile phone handsets, Rs 2,090 in cash and one four wheeler Hyundai i20 car without a registration number were recovered.
The arrested cadres were identified as Singam Kabikanta Singh (31) of Thoubal Wangkhem Mamang Leikai of Thoubal district, Ngangom Tangba Meitei (30) of Sekta Mayai Leikai of Imphal East district, Sadokpam Nongpoknganba Singh (22) of Yairipok Phangjakhong of Thoubal district, Konsam Anao Singh (26) of Mayang Imphal Thana Mamang Leikai of Thoubal district and Md Iliyas Khan (30) of Yairipok Changamdabi Makha Leikai of Imphal East district.

Based on disclosures made by the arrestees, the police alleged that they were cadres of KCP(MTF) actively involved in the extortion of money from the general public, government officials, businessmen, etc, police said.
The operation was conducted as a part of the ongoing operations to recover illegal and looted arms and ammunition during the initial stage of the crisis unfolding in the state since May 3, the police also said.
The arrested persons and recovered items have been handed over to Andro police station for further necessary legal actions, the police added.
