Manipur Police convoy Ambushed enroute Moreh; 3 personnel injured

Imphal: A convoy of State Security Forces dispatched from Pallel to Moreh for aiding in carrying out massive combing operations was attacked by armed miscreants, suspected to be Kuki militants, on their way to the border town. The State forces team was heading to Moreh following the killing of Moreh SDPO by armed assailants earlier in the day.

The state security forces team included Kakching SP Th. Vikramjit, Thoubal Additional SP Operations Wangkhomba, Special Commando Unit OC Vivekananda, and was led by IGP Zone-1 Themthing Ngasangva and DIG Range 2 Jogeshchandra Haobijam.

The attack occurred a little ahead of Senam Village, just before reaching Tengnoupal District Headquarters.

During the ambush, three police personnel who were escorts of IGP Zone 1 Themthing Ngasangva sustained bullet injuries, and several police vehicles were damaged due to the attack carried out using bombs and guns.

The ambush led to an intense crossfire that continued until late in the evening. Following the attack, the police vehicles headed towards Moreh, except for the vehicles carrying IGP Zone 1 Themthing Ngasangva, DIG Range 2 Jogeshchandra Haobijam, and Kakching SP Th. Vikramjit. The teams heading to Moreh were led by Thoubal Additional SP Operation Wangkhomba and Special Commando Unit OC Vivekananda.

The three injured personnel were brought to Raj Medicity at North AOC this evening. Injured personnel are Head Constable S. Thuikhavang, son of Samuel, from Kachai Village, Ukhrul District, S. Sekharjit, son of Priyananda from Singjamei Wagma Kshetri leikai and L. Bangkim, son of Tomba from Yairipok Khoirom. Thuikhavang and L. Bangkim sustained injuries on their legs while, Sekharjit was injured on his right hand and stomach. DIG Range 1 N. Herojit and Imphal West District SP Ksh. Shibakanta visited Raj-Medicity and took stock of their condition.
