Imphal: Caches of arms, explosives and ammunition were recovered as police continued joint operations with central security forces in fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts of the strife-hit Manipur for area domination.
Police said that caches of arms, explosives and ammunition were recovered in the operations in the fringe areas of Imphal East and Thoubal districts in the last two days.

In one of the operations at Maphou Bazar and Maphou Kuki village under Thoubal Dam police station of Imphal East district, the police said, 20 gram of Heroin drug were recovered along with a cache of arms, explosives and ammunition on Monday.
The recovered items were one improvised mortar, two bipod/ mount, one base plate, 32 country made launcher live round bomb, five country made launcher ammunition round cap, one explosive weighing 1.5kg (approx), 1.5 metres of cordtex wire, two lighters, two 36 hand grenades, one pompie mortar and 60 fired cases.

In another operation at Utonglok village under Sagolmang police station of Imphal East district on Tuesday, the police recovered one 9 mm US made M-1 carbine machine gun, one tear gas gun, five 9 mm live rounds, one tear gas shell, nine fired tear gas shells and three 36 HE hand grenade.
On the same day, six bulletproof plate (iron), three bulletproof jackets, two helmets, one radio set, one stunt hand grenade, two rounds of 5.56mm carbine, one round of 5.56mm INSAS ball, one round of AK ball (fired case), two AK ball (miss fired rounds) were recovered from Oinam Sawombung under Lilong police station of Thoubal district, the police added.

The Manipur police have been conducting joint operations with the state and the central security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas across the violent-hit districts to recover arms, explosives and ammunition in the possessions of the miscreants, particularly those looted from the state police armories.
Manipur has been experiencing unrest since the eruption of violent clashes among the people of two communities on May 3 last year and during the initial stage of the violence.

More than 5,668 arms along with ammunition were looted during the initial stage of the violence and till September last year, the police and security force have so far recovered 1,329 arms and 15,050 rounds of ammunition. They also recovered 900 bombs.
