Manipur violence: Over 300 Naga leaders held consultative meeting in Senapati district

Senapati, May 16: At least 300 Naga leaders from Manipur came together and discussed the prevailing situation in the state during the consultative meeting organised by the United Naga Council (UNC) in Senapati district on Tuesday, said sources.

The meeting which was held at TNK Hall at Senapati headquarters was attended by UNC executives, former presidents and executives, CSO leaders and intellectuals. Leaders from the Naga community expressed their views and opinions in order to bring back normalcy at the earliest, and their stand on the recent communal riot.

However, according to sources, no resolution was taken during the meeting in regards to the present law and order situation in the state. The UNC has called for the presidential council meeting at the earliest, it added.

Meanwhile, the Peace Committee constituted by the UNC has recently met the Coordinating Committee of Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) and discussed on various ways to restore peace and tranquility in the state at the earliest.

Sources also informed that the team is also coordinating with the Kuki leaders for a meeting in regards to the recent communal riot.

On the other hand, chief minister N Biren Singh and security adviser to the Government of Manipur Kuldiep Singh as well as Manipur police ADGP Ashutosh Sinha called on Governor Sushri Anusuiya Uikey and apprised her on the prevailing situation in the state.
