Manipur Youth Held With 72,000 Peacock Feathers Bound for Myanmar

Imphal, May 18: In a bust linked to cross-border wildlife trafficking, Manipur Police arrested a youth on Saturday who was attempting to smuggle a huge consignment of peacock feather shafts to Myanmar. The accused, Sharifuddin of Moreh town, was intercepted near Pallel gate in Kakching district, police said today.

The operation, conducted near the Pallel-PS gate area in Kakching district, yielded 72,000 peacock feather shafts weighing approximately 142 kg, the police stated.

The estimated international market value of the seized feathers amounts to Rs. 37 lakh. Additionally, police seized one four-wheeler believed to be used in the illicit trade, the police added.
