Manipuri Recognized as Associate Official Language in Four Districts of Assam

Imphal: The Assam Government has officially designated Manipuri as an Associate Official Language in four districts of the state. This landmark decision, announced on Thursday, follows the passage of the Assam Official Language (Amendment) Bill, 2024, and marks a significant recognition for the Manipuri-speaking community in Assam.

In response to this historic move, the Manipuri Youths Front Assam (MYFA) has declared August 29 as “Ema-Longi Numit” or Manipuri Language Day.

Speaking from their headquarters in Rongpur Part-2, Cachar District, MYFA Chief Adviser Seram Herajit expressed gratitude to Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and the Assam Government.

He stated that this recognition will have a profound and lasting impact on the Manipuri community residing in Assam.
