Senapati, September 13: A mass social work and cleanliness drive along NH-2, involving cutting down tall grasses on blind curves, filling potholes, and maintaining drainage along the highway, was carried out on Saturday. The event was initiated by the Mao Baptist Churches Association (MBCA) Youth Department in collaboration with the Senapati District Drivers Welfare Union and the Surface Transport Hills Area Drivers Welfare Union, Manipur.
Addressing the media, A. Neli, Youth Secretary of the Mao Baptist Churches Association (MBCA), stated that such mass social work and cleanliness drives have been taken up by the Youth Department since 2017 along NH-2 under the theme “Cleanliness is next to Godliness.” The Youth Secretary urged everyone to protect and keep the environment neat and clean, to keep it green, and to stay healthy and safe. Neli also appealed to all concerned to maintain a clean and green environment.

Athikho Ranbir, Advisor of the Surface Transport Hills Area Drivers Welfare Union, Manipur, stated that the Youth Department of the Mao Baptist Churches Association, in collaboration with the Senapati District Drivers Welfare Union and the Surface Transport Hills Area Drivers Welfare Union, has been organising mass social work and cleanliness drives to keep the environment clean, green, healthy, and safe. Earlier, the two unions had organised highway clearance by cutting down tall grasses along blind curves on NH-2. The advisor mentioned that more than 1,000 volunteers had taken part in the highway clearance on the day, completing unfinished work between Mao Gate and Senapati district headquarters. The volunteers filled potholes on the highway with stone pebbles and mud, and maintained drainage along NH-2.

More than 1,000 volunteers, consisting of youth from the Mao Baptist Churches Association (MBCA), members of the two drivers’ welfare unions, and personnel from Bn 109-CRPF, Mao Post, participated in the drive.
