Miscreants burns paddy stack in Thoubal district

Imphal: A paddy stack for threshing in the field at Khangabok in Thoubal district of Manipur was found to have been set afire early on Wednesday morning.

The torched paddy stack of a sangam (27225 square feet of paddy field) belonged to Moirangthem Nabachandra Singh (50) of Khangabok Part-1. The paddy stack has been completely reduced to ashes.

The police suspected miscreant(s) set afire the paddy stack in the wee hours of Wednesday as the stacks found were still burning when they rushed to the spot.

After registering a case, the police have started an investigation to nab the miscreant(s), police said.

This was not the first time in which piled up paddy crops for threshing were being destroyed by burning.

In the recent years, there were several instances of miscreants destroying paddy crops piled up in the field for threshing.

Meanwhile, members of the Like Minded Group, a civil society organisation, today visited the house of the paddy owner and extended a monetary help of Rs 5,000.
