Miscreants try to bulldoze Meitei properties in Moreh; indefinite curfew imposed

Moreh: An indefinite curfew has been imposed in Moreh, an Indo-Myanmar border town, following an incident where miscreants attempted to destroy the remaining structures of burnt houses and shops belonging to the Meitei community.

Sources said the miscreants were using heavy machinery. There have been similar reports of properties of the Meitei/Meetei community flattened in Churachandpur during the ethnic violence.

The Deputy Commissioner of Tengnoupal to this effect has imposed an indefinite curfew on Tuesday morning and implemented various security measures.

Special Commandos of Manipur Police were airlifted to Moreh using choppers to prevent further destruction and to maintain law and order in the border areas.

Additionally, personnel from the Rapid Action Force (RAF) reached Moreh by road.

Ukhrul: Paorei’s Cosmos Flower Festival Begins

With the heavy deployment of security forces in Moreh, there have been no reports of further destruction of building structures at the time of filing this report.
