Aizawl, October 15 (SHABD): Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Thursday inaugurated a new Common Facility Centre in Zuangleng, Serchhip District, designed to transform discarded banana pseudostems into income-generating products for local farmers.
The state-of-the-art processing unit aims to utilize the region’s abundant banana plants, which are often considered agricultural waste. Speaking at the inauguration, the Chief Minister expressed optimism that the facility would turn these pseudostems into valuable products and create sustainable livelihood opportunities.
The project, funded by the Ministry of DoNER under the PM-DevINE scheme and implemented by the North East Centre for Technology Application and Reach (NECTAR), will produce a range of goods including fibre-based handicrafts, handmade paper, vermicompost, and vegan leather.
