According to official sources, lone BJP legislator, Dr. Budhha Dhan Chakma was tested positive for the virus but he is asymptomatic. He is the first MLA in the state to have contracted the disease in the state.

The sources then said all the family members of the 47-year old legislator were tested negative for COVID-19.

At the time of filing of this report, Dr Budha Dhan Chakma was being shifted to Zoram Medical College (ZMC) to undergo treatment. However, this information could not be confirmed officially.

Meanwhile, the latest update of COVID-19 in the state takes the tally to 1,414. Out of these, 591 are active cases.

It can be mentioned here that a one week lockdown in the Municipal area of the state capital Aizawl is underway since Friday, September 11. The decision of the Mizoram government came as the state continues to report the relative rising cases of COVID-19.

The Health department said that there have been cases of COVID-19 detected through contact tracing and ‘unknown sources’. The Health department considered such a trend as “a grave concern”.

It can also be noted here that the state government had expressed concern on Thursday with regard to the availability of facilities to address the rising cases of COVID-19 in the state.
