Monsang Naga Students’ Union organises One Day Vocational Orientation Cum Interaction Session

Chandel: The Sirti Thiimjiitam Sourkhe (Monsang Naga Students’ Union) organized ‘One Day Vocational Orientation Cum Interaction Session’ on Saturday at Liwachangning Hall, Chandel under the theme “Let’s Reason Together.”

Bd Maria Anal, asst professor, United College, Lambung, Chandel and Dr Somie Wanglar Monsang, former asst professor, Miranda House, Delhi University attended the program as resource speakers. Dd Maria spoke on the topic “New National Education Policies & Challenges of Youths in Globalized World (21st Century), while Dr W Somie delivered on the topic “What Career Opportunities Can One Seek or Pursue After 10, 10+2 and Graduation” respectively.

Dd Maria stressed on the need to adapt to the changing trends of the modern technological world. The new national education policies will equip students better and open new avenues and challenges of lives among the youths in particular. Dr W Somie spoke on the diverse career opportunities one can seek or pursue after taking careful consideration of one’s interest, personality, aptitude, skill, etc. She also added that early career planning is an important step that needs careful consideration and family knowledge and support is impetus, among other factors.

More than 200 students from Monsang and neighbouring communities presently studying in classes VIII-XII from various schools from Chandel such as St Peter’s Hr Sec School, St Joseph’s High School, Angam Memorial School, St Paul High School, Shalom English Academy attended the career guidance program. Under-graduate students from various colleges and universities in the state and outside also attended the one day career interaction session.

Sapa Kiirii Gedion, president STS, in his welcome and introductory speech extended warm welcome to all the participating students, parents, teachers, tribe leaders, and resource person. He also expressed his gratitude to all the members who have sponsored the event generously on behalf of Sirti Thiimjiitam Sourkhe (STS).

Upa Sh Manglem, former ADC member Chandel, Upa Ng Benithan, president SUR, Upa Sanuw Ts Dinpham, president SSR, Upa Th Alfred, Headmaster St. Joseph High School, Upa Dr. Sh Wilson, FSO, Chandel, Upa Sanuw K. Khishung, Headmistress, ADC Chandel, Upa Sh. Angningjoy, Deacon, LBC attended the program as special guests.

In his short speech, Upa Sh Manglem appreciated STS for organizing career guidance and encouraged students to do their best in their studies and future career.

The post tea-break session was marked by question hour and interactive session. Many doubts of the students related to future career and job prospects were cleared by the resource person with inputs from Dr Sh Wilson. Many students after the end of the program opined that the ‘One Day Vocational Orientation cum Interactive Session’ organized by STS was quite enlightening and helpful. Student participants commented that more of such career guidance is envisaged in future to help students solve doubts and nuances related to career planning.
