MP Supongmeren Jamir Visits BSNL Nagaland, Reviews Telecom and Fibre Expansion Plans

Ukhrul: Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) S Supongmeren Jamir today visited and interacted with the management and staff of the Nagaland Branch of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), led by its General Manager, Masharib Gul Mufti ITS, at their State Office Headquarters at Dimapur, a press release said on Tuesday.

The NPCC press release said that during the interaction, the General Manager Mufti, highlighted the organisation’s ceaseless efforts to provide connectivity access to the areas in the state still not under the Telecom network coverage. He added that in that connection they had submitted an ambitious project envisaging the erection of 555 Telecommunication Towers spread across the state under the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) of the Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications, which would provide long needed last mile connectivity to the consumers in the affected areas.

It further said that Mufti also dwelt on the lack of optical fibre cables (OFC) connections in the state, with the exception of three districts, and underscored the importance of fiberisation of the Telecom Towers for faster, more efficient and reliable data transmissions, adding that the Corporation is currently in advanced level discussions with the Power Department, Government of Nagaland, for employing the use of the High Tension Power Transmission Line infrastructure existing in the state for expanding its wired data network.

This proposed mode of data transmission through the Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) cable medium is expected to provide high speed fibre connectivity to four more additional districts in the state, it added.

The MP while affirming his full support for the team’s, assured all possible interventions from his end, both at the state as well as the centre, acknowledged the tireless commitment of the Public Corporation in providing affordable quality telecom connectivity in the state, especially lauding the team in the state for their efforts in bridging the connectivity divide and walking the extra mile to ensure access to the last man in the line, said the NPCC press release.
