UT News Service | SHILLONG, Aug 11: Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) has welcomed the clarification provided by the CEO of Prasar Bharati, Shashi S. Vemapti over the shifting of the local TV station from the Tura to Shillong.

“We welcome the clarification of Shashi S Vemapti, CEO of Prasar Bharati and the ADG’s email regarding the issue of downgrading of DDK Tura, which according to them was based on ‘fake news’. We also appreciate the various organisations coming together and giving their voice for the cause of this landmark institution of the region,” said MPYC president, Richard Marak on Tuesday.

Marak also said that the next logical step would be to demand the up-grade of DDK Tura with satellite up-linking facilities, updating the outdated equipment still in use and increasing the staff strength, thereby giving opportunities for local and qualified youth.

“We have already made these demands and we feel that making these upgrades will not only enhance the quality of programmes coming from this region and increase reach but also raise the status of Prasar Bharati as a whole,” Marak said.

Marak also opined that more voices are needed in this regard from stakeholders, so that these demands are fulfilled in the coming days.
