SENAPATI: The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) and the United Naga Council (UNC), along with Naga tribal bodies, have alleged that the killing of two Naga civilians at TM Kasom along NH-202 on Saturday was a premeditated attack by Kuki militants, describing it as a serious threat to the safety, dignity, and collective security of the Naga people.
During a Joint Emergency Meeting held at Tahamzam (Senapati) on April 19, the organisations also raised concerns over the failure of security forces, pointing out that the incident occurred close to their deployment. They further stated that the State government bears moral responsibility, noting that the incident took place a day after the visit of the Chief Minister and Home Minister to Ukhrul district.
The organisations have demanded that the case be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for a time-bound investigation to ensure identification and prosecution of those involved. They also called for strengthened security measures along NH-202 and other vulnerable areas, and assurances for the safety and free movement of civilians. The demands put forward by the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) were also endorsed.
As part of their response, the meeting resolved to impose a three-day total shutdown across all Naga areas from midnight of April 20 to midnight of April 23, 2026, during which all institutions, businesses, and vehicular movement will remain suspended except for emergency services.
