Mumbai, October 19: In a vibrant celebration of Naga culture and unity, the Nagas’ Student Union in Mumbai marked its 52nd Annual Nagas’ Meet Cum Freshers’ Day on October 16, 2023. The event, themed “Retracing Our Roots,” brought together Nagas from diverse backgrounds, emphasizing unity, diversity, and hard work within the Naga community.
The event commenced with an invocation led by NCF pastor, Hamyan Phom, setting the tone for the day’s proceedings. The welcome address was eloquently delivered by Zachano Tsopoe, the General Secretary of the Nagas Student Union Mumbai.

The program was divided into two sessions: formal and informal. During the formal session, the guest of honor, Dikshit Gedan, delivered an insightful speech emphasizing the significance of acknowledging diversity within the Naga community and recognizing each other’s fellow tribes and being aware of the advances in the community and never straying away from them.
The guest speaker, Shelehu Pao, captivated the audience with his words of wisdom, stressing the importance of hard work, perseverance, and faith in God to achieve one’s dreams. He also spoke about the value of family, cherishing one’s parents, and staying connected with them.
The introduction of freshers took place, with James Lana, NSUM’s advisor, offering a heartfelt prayer for the newcomers. The formal session concluded with a closing prayer by Dr Johnson, followed by a sumptuous dinner for all attendees.

The informal session sizzled with electrifying performances, featuring soulful songs by guest artists KL Pamei and the meteoric rise of Aiden Young, a talented rapper.
A stunning traditional fashion show unveiled the resplendent tapestry of Naga fashion, artfully weaving it with contemporary western elements. The stage came alive with a flurry of talents that left the audience roaring in excitement.
One of the event’s highlights was the crowning of Miss and Mister Freshers, following thorough rounds of questionnaires conducted by three esteemed judges. The winners were chosen based on their confidence, personality, clarity in their goals and aspirations and the level of prompt wit they emitted in their answers.

Happy Rose Lanah was crowned as Miss Fresher while the title of Mister Fresher was given to Truvi Rhi.
The event concluded with words of gratitude delivered by Thujolu Phesao, Information Secretary of the Naga Student Union. Attendees left with a stronger sense of community and the importance of preserving cultural heritage.
The event was a resounding success, bringing together the Naga community to celebrate their roots, diversity, and aspirations. The event served as a reminder of the strength that unity and cultural preservation bring to the Naga people.
