UKHRUL: The Naga People’s Organisation (NPO), Senapati, has announced a 12-hour total shutdown in Senapati district on September 28 in protest against the killing of three Naga civilians and the injury of another at Kalenjang village on September 26.

The NPO on Sunday said two civilians were killed at the spot in the attack, while a third later succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment. One other victim remains under medical care at Getwell Clinic, Senapati. The organisation condemned the attack and called for a thorough, impartial and time-bound investigation to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.
The NPO, Senapati, expressed concern over what it described as conflicting statements by certain Kuki individuals and civil society organisations. It specifically questioned a statement attributed to Mrs. Lhingjajoi Hangshing, former village chief of Kalenjang, asserting that she no longer holds customary or administrative authority over the village.

The shutdown will be observed from 6 am to 6 pm on September 28, covering business establishments, traffic movement, including military convoys, and private and government offices across Senapati district. However, educational institutions, religious programmes, water supply, electricity services, fire services, medical services and media have been exempted from the shutdown.
The NPO then appealed to the people of Senapati to extend their cooperation and support, reiterating its demand for justice for the three deceased civilians and the injured survivor.
It also alleged that the Kalenjang attack was carried out by armed Kuki elements and called for those responsible to be prosecuted in accordance with law. The allegations could not be independently verified.
