Naga Women’s Union Backs Dr. Rosemary Dzuvichu, Demands Justice

Senapati, September 26: The Naga Women’s Union (NWU) has voiced strong condemnation over threats made against Dr. Rosemary Dzuvichu, a well-known advocate for women’s reservation and the socio-political empowerment of women communities.

In a statement, the NWU described the threats as a serious affront not just to Dr. Dzuvichu’s personal safety, but also to the dignity and ethical values of all women. The organisation stressed that patriarchal systems that undermine women have no place in today’s society, and such acts of intimidation affect the entire women community, not just an individual.

Highlighting the importance of women’s rights, the NWU reaffirmed that women’s reservation is a long-overdue entitlement for women across the nation. The organisation warned that any attempt to silence women through threats, coercion, or verbal abuse will not be tolerated by women and girls actively advocating for their rights.

The union urged authorities to take action against the intimidator under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including: Sections 503, 506, 507 – criminal intimidation, threats to cause death, grievous hurt, or outrage modesty. And Section 509 – words, gestures, or acts intended to insult the modesty of a woman or verbal harassment.

The NWU also expressed disappointment at the social media platform ‘Unified Naga Land for Christ’ for failing to properly screen the post that violated content regulations.

Calling for immediate government intervention, the union demanded that the culprit face strict punishment under the law. Expressing solidarity with Dr. Dzuvichu, advisor to the Nagaland Mothers’ Association, the NWU declared: “The voices will rise louder and stronger until justice is served.”
