UKHRUL: A Peace Mission delegation from Nagaland visited Ukhrul on May 30 and held a meeting at Magen Hills, reaffirming solidarity with the Naga people in the face of ongoing challenges along the Indo-Myanmar border.

The six-member team, comprising representatives of the Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) and the Global Naga Forum (GNF), brought relief materials for residents of Choro, Namlee and Wanglee villages. The villages were affected by arson attacks from suspected in which houses were burnt and torched by suspected Kuki National Army – Burma (KNA-B) cadres operating from across the international border.

During the visit, the delegation interacted with several prominent Tangkhul leaders based in Ukhrul and held what participants described as a free and frank discussion on issues confronting the Naga people.

According to sources, the delegation expressed strong solidarity with the Southern Nagas and underscored the need for greater unity among Naga communities. Participants observed that while external aggression remains a concern, disunity among Nagas continues to be one of the most significant challenges facing the people.

The meeting also stressed that the present situation calls for statesmanship and collective leadership, with participants urging Naga leaders to rise above differences and work towards a common purpose during what was described as a period of national crisis.

As per GNF press statement issued on June 3, it noted that the Peace Mission visit was not only to deliver relief materials but also to convey a message of solidarity and collective responsibility. Referring to the Global Naga Forum’s relief mission for the affected villages of Choro, Wanglee and Namlee, the delegation said the response from donors and volunteers across Nagaland and the Naga diaspora reflected the enduring spirit of Naga unity during times of crisis. They stressed that recovery and rehabilitation efforts must be accompanied by stronger efforts towards Naga cohesion and mutual support.
